Bellco and Colorado Garden Foundation donate $75,000 to Food Bank of the Rockies

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (Feb. 25, 2021) –The Colorado Garden & Home Show may have been virtual this month, but that didn’t stop its longtime title sponsor Bellco Credit Union from teaming up with the Colorado Garden Foundation to donate $75,000 to Food Bank of the Rockies.

Each year, the Colorado Garden Foundation provides grants to local horticulture and food focused non-profit rganizations using the proceeds from ticket sales to the annual Colorado Garden & Home Show and the Colorado Fall Home Show. With this year’s in-person Garden & Home Show canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, the Colorado Garden Foundation and Bellco decided to join forces to make a donation to Food Bank of the Rockies to support Coloradans who are experiencing hardship during the current economic environment.

“Bellco has been involved with the Colorado Garden & Home Show for 10 years,” said Doug Ferraro, Bellco’s president and CEO. “Because of COVID-19, we know the demand for food is at an all-time high and we believe strongly in the work that Food Bank of the Rockies is doing to feed people who are hungry. So, together with the Colorado Garden Foundation, we felt we could continue to support the community by providing help for those who need it now more than ever.”

“Our two shows have provided us the opportunity to award more than $750,000 per year in horticulture scholarships and grants throughout Colorado,” said Jim Fricke, executive director, Colorado Garden Foundation. “While the pandemic caused the cancellation of both shows in the past 12 months, it didn’t prevent our nonprofit from partnering with Bellco to help Colorado as much as possible.”

We’re grateful to Bellco and the Colorado Garden Foundation for their support,” said Erin Puling, Food Bank of the Rockies president & CEO. “In 2020, we distributed more than 100 million pounds of food for the first time in our 42-year history, and we don’t see demand for food slowing any time soon.”

In addition to the monetary donation, Bellco and Colorado Garden Foundation representatives volunteered to distribute food at a mobile pantry in Aurora, where 9,000 pounds of food went to individuals and families.
